Van

Just in case everyone was wondering - SGI didn't write our car off, but Darwin and I went to just look at some vans and we found a 2005 Pontiac Montana for 19,900. God really came through for us here. We were afraid that we wouldn't be approved, but we were. Also, we were quoted 26,000 at first, but then the salesman said that it was 19,900. A BIG difference. Anyway, the van is a lot better than the car and with all the power jacks in the right places. PRAISE GOD!! Thanks everyone!! PUSH!!!!

Christmas and December 27th Meeting

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Everyone!!!

I hope that everyone had a great Christmas and I pray that you all will have a great New Year!!

I apologize for not updating everyone sooner about the Dec. 27th meeting, but we really have been quite busy. Taylor has come down with a pretty bad cold with a throat infection and a fever. Yesterday, the hospital phone to let me know that Emilie was running a fever. Please pray that God will heal this illness and it won't affect her as much as it is Taylor. I'm not sure yet how she's doing today, but she is in isolation and shouldn't have as many visitors until she is feeling better.

Anyway, I know you are all waiting to hear the results of the meeting. We want to really thank all of you that prayed for this meeting. It really paid off and we felt that God really had his hand on the meeting. We met with the nursing manager, Leanne, and Dr. Givilichian, as well as a social worker. We expressed our feelings of wanting Em home and basically were told what we had to do. Because home care won't support us we are going to apply for individualized funding, which means we can hire our own caregiver, but we are responsible for the hiring and all the paperwork to go with it. Pray that this funding will come through and that we will be able to qualify for it. Also, they felt that Darwin and I weren't spending enough time with Emilie when we are in town. We need to be there most of the weekend. This, however, will have an impact on Taylor. Taylor, being so young, can't handle being in the hospital too long. Pray that Taylor will adjust accordingly and will not be affected by this. My mom and I took Emilie for a walk on Friday for about an hour. Darwin and I have to take her on many walks before we can take her on a day pass. She has to be well or she can't go because if she's sick she has to be in isolation and can't leave her room. Pray for healing from the cold. That's about the extent of the meeting. Definitely a lot more positive than the first family meeting. Please also pray that she won't be sent out of province, which she will have to be if they get full again.

Thanks for all your continuing prayers. God is listening - definitely. He is not ignoring our prayers. Just pray that His plan will continue and that His purpose will be fulfilled through Emilie's life. He wants to draw people to Him - into a personal relationship with Him and He is. Keep praying!!! PUSH

Christmas - Emilie really enjoyed Christmas!! After we opened presents at Auntie Lori's, Mommy, Daddy, Taylor, and Grandpa Updike gathered up all of her presents and went up to the hospital to have our Christmas with Emilie. She really wasn't interested in the presents, but she loved the pretty paper and the BOWS!! We stuck a bow to her hand and she enjoyed waving her hand in the air. If the bow fell off, she would cry until we put it back on. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures. I think my dad did and I would have to import them from my mom's camera - I'll post them later. I did however get some video. It happened that she had one bow on each hand and one on her head. . . . she LOVED it. Taylor wouldn't let her play with any of her toys, although she did love the light up piano/button thing. Anyway, thanks for all of your support. We love you all and really appreciate your prayers and continued support.

Love,

Darwin, Sherri, Taylor, and especially Emilie

Emilie 8 months

Hello everybody!

Well on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 Emilie turned 8 months old. She is STILL growing and is now 30 inches long and 19 pounds. We laid her big brother, Taylor, down beside her and he isn't much longer. 4 more inches and Emilie will be as long as Taylor was when he was 2 years old.

Last week we went through the disappointment and fear of another collapsed lung. This is the second time this has happened to Emilie since she was born. Please keep this in your prayers. On that same very day, I signed papers for VitalAire (the company that is supplying all her equipment). I was told that the only thing they were waiting for was the payment from the government and then they can release the equipment to us. Please pray that this will be fast. We all know how the government can be. We would like to start taking Em out on Day passes.

On Saturday, we didn't know if we would make it in to Saskatoon at all this weekend. We were awakened at about 10:30am by two police officers. Our car had bit hit and the driver took off. See pictures above. We are hoping they will find the person that did this so that we don't have to pay the $700.00 deductible. That is a lot of money around Christmas time. . . even the $100.00 for the downpayment on the payment plan is a lot of money around Christmas time, but we need the car to go to Saskatoon and both Darwin and I still have to work. We are also hoping that maybe the car would just be written off because we will really need a van when Emilie does come home. Her equipment will never fit in that little car. Maybe this is all just an answer to prayer. God works so mysteriously. . . we never know.
Emilie is moving more and more. She is really trying to move that head. She moves it whenever she can. She also knows how to move her trach just right to make noise. If she can make noise, she will make it as much as she can. She is smiling more and more and now has a total count of 3 full teeth and one that probably came out this morning. It should be out this week. This one is bothering her a lot and is taking its time making an appearance.
Anyway, I gotta get going. I have to get ready for work. Please keep praying for these things. God is sure wonderful. 20 or 30 years ago Emilie would never have survived. With the present day technology, which God had a hand on no doubt, they are able to keep this bright little girl alive. She is very smart. Thanks for all of your prayers. God surely is listening. Please don't get discouraged. PUSH - Pray Until Something Happens.
Also please pray for our meetings. We have a meeting with Home Care on Thursday, December 14 and a Family conference with the doctors at the hospital on Wednesday, December 27. Please pray that God will have a hand on these meetings. That His will will prevail over these meetings. That negativity and discouragement will have no place at these meetings as they have in all the past meetings. Thanks everybody. We love each and everyone of you...so does Emilie.
Love,
Darwin, Sherri, Taylor, and especially Emilie

URGENT PRAYER NEEDED

I got a phone call from the hospital at 6:50am this morning. Emilie's blood oxygen levels decreased. They couldn't bring them up by suctioning or a trach change. It was later determined that the lower lobe of her right lung had collapsed. Apparently, they made changes to her ventilator and she is ok now, but I can't sit at home/work with that so I am leaving to Saskatoon to see her for myself. Please pray that God will heal her lungs. This is the second time that her lung has collapsed. She turns 8 months old today. Thanks for your prayers, I'll write an update when I get home tonight!! PUSH - Pray Until Something Happens.

Love all of you!!

Prayer request

PRAYER REQUEST

I got a call from the hospital today. They want to have another family meeting. Please pray that this meeting will go well (according to God's plan). I just don't want to enter into another meeting where they will say that Emilie is a ticking time bomb. Please pray about it. Thanks you all!! We love each and every one of you. Keep praying. PUSH

Christmas Tree - Dec 4

Hi everyone,

Taylor, Grandma and I took up a small Christmas tree for Emilie last night. She LOVED it!! I sat her up and she grabbed the branches and spent some time pulling on them and feeling them. She also grabbed one of the red balls that Taylor had put on and was trying to pull it off. It was so amazing to watch her reaction to this new object. Then Taylor was given a popsicle by one of the nurses and her eyes went from the tree to the popsicle - back and forth. Her big brother gave her a taste of his popsicle and she loved it.

She is a very persistent little girl. She tries very hard to control her head. We are praying that soon she will be able to hold her head up. With her determination and God's help we know that this will happen. She is NOT going to sit by and just watch Taylor as he moves and runs around. You can tell by how she watches him that she wants to move just like him.

Pray for her equipment to come. We really need it so that we can start taking her out on day passes and the like.

Pray for the communication between the hospital and the parents. - Not too much has been communicated lately.

Pray for a caregiver for Emilie when she comes home. We need someone who is NOT going to be grossed out by the procedures that they need to know. We also need someone who can come and train and look after Emilie ASAP. (At least Minimum wage will be paid). This caregiver will only be required only on school days every other week when my husband is at work. Roughly 25 hours a week. Please help us pray for the right person. Any recommendations??? Please call me or email me.

Pray for Home care - that nurses will be found for the nightime hours and that the coverage will be there.

Thanks to all of your encouraging words. Pictures next week!! Emilie will be 8 months old!! Complete update in email as well!!

Love all of you!! Thanks for your prayers and please don't stop. I know sometimes it can be discouraging, but God is listenin and He is healing her in His own way. PUSH - Pray Until Something Happens!!!

November 25,26

Hi everybody!!

We were up to see Emilie this weekend and she tries so hard to move her head now. I went to suction out her nose and she turned her head away from me. Also, when I was holding her, Darwin spoke and everytime he spoke she tried so hard to look at him. She is definitely going to be Daddy's little girl. Please keep praying for her equipment to come. We are extremely hopeful. Also please keep praying for our coverage for home care to come through. I also still need a babysitter for her when she comes home and I go to work. If there is anyone in North Battleford area that you think could do it or if you think you would like to do it, please let me know ASAP. Training will need to be done. Wages can be negotiated. Thanks everybody! We love you all alot!! PUSH

Learning the Ventilator

Darwin and I were in Saskatoon on Thurs, Nov 16 to learn about Emilie's ventilator. It was pretty straight forward, but the respiratory therapist was not happy to learn that we have not yet received any of Emilie's equipment. She said she had to make a couple of phone calls. Thanks for all your prayers. This may be the answer to receiving Emilie's equipment. Keep praying for this request!! We want to start taking her out. We would especially like to take her to see my Grandma and Grandpa at their home. Thanks everyone!! We love you all so much. Thanks for your support and prayers!!

Sherri

(Emilie was so excited to see us yesterday!! Her arms and her legs were just moving!! While I was holding her, Darwin said her name and she tried very hard to turn her head and look at him. Praise Jesus!! She is very determined. PUSH!!)

CT SCAN

Hi everybody!

I spoke to the resident again today and they are taking Emilie for a CT scan on Wed Nov 15 at 1:00pm. They think that her head is growing too big so they want to just make sure that everything is alright. Please pray that it is. Pray for this CT scan. Thanks for your prayers again!!

Monday November 13th

I spoke to a resident at lunch today. She called to let me know about the vaccinations that they are giving to Emilie this week. She also told me that they tried her on the trach mask and she only lasted 30 minutes before her oxygen levels went down. Her breathing does not appear to be as strong as it had been in the past. Please pray that God will strengthen her chest wall. This is not her lungs...it is the muscles in her chest wall. Thank-you for your continued prayers.

Emilie 7 months

Hello everyone. I've decided that because all of the pictures I send out are huge I am just going to start an online album for Emilie. I will add all the other pictures later on. I'm not quite sure how this works yet, but please let me know if it worked ok or not.

Anyway, a lot of people have been asking for more updates. I'll send them out as much as possible. I apologize, as right now I am in the middle of report cards.

Emilie is still growing like a weed. She is 18lbs and 28.5 inches long. She didn't grow longer in the last month, but she did put on weight. I am also proud to announce that she is now sporting two teeth on the bottom and is beginning to show signs of a third on the top. She is a very beautiful and very happy little girl, but she is also very determined and can be very sneaky. By sneaky, I mean that when the nurses aren't looking she will pull off her leads and cause all the alarms to go off.

Prayer requests:

1. Please pray that all of Emilie's equipment will come so that she can come out of the hospital for Christmas.

2. Please pray that God will give the doctor's wisdom in how to treat Emilie.

3. Please pray that Home Care and Sask health will give us all the help we need and fast so that Emilie can be home soon. At least by Taylor's birthday if not sooner. That would be his "bestest" present.

4. Pray that Emilie will continue to grow stronger and that she will be able to withstand trach mask trials off of the ventilator.

5. Pray that God will be glorified through this situation and that He will draw people to Him through this precious little girl. (He already is. This has been my prayer since she was born).

Emilie appears to be stronger and stronger in her movements in her limbs everytime I see her. She is beginning to move her head a little more. I believe that God has great plans for this little princess. He is going to use her as a vessel for Him. He is going to be glorified through this situation.
Thanks to each of you who are praying non-stop for our little girl. I'm sure that she appreciates it even more. You are all special to us. More than you will ever know. We love you all. PUSH - Pray Until Something Happens!!!
