Home Care - Individualized funding

Well, I spoke to the manager of individualized funding today. She said that because regular home care turned us down and because they are a branch of home care they can't provide us the support we need either.

MAJOR PRAYER REQUEST

Please pray that God will provide us the support we need to get Emilie home one way or another. We need this support. We can't make Sask Health provide the suppport - We NEED a miracle - a window to open because all the doors are closing on us. Please send this request to everyone you know. A little girl is being kept from her family because home care doesn't want to take a chance with her. They want to stay comfortable - not tread on new water.

Forward this to everyone you know. That God will show us who to go to and keep opening windows!!

Thanks everyone!!

Update on Emilie

Hello everybody!!

I called the PICU yesterday, (sorry I didn't update yesterday) but Emilie is doing somewhat better. Yesterday they didn't do an x-ray to see if the pneumonia is gone, but they did take her off of isolation. They also moved her to a bigger room because she has been crammed in this smaller room for 9 months.

On Saturday when I got to see her, she kept trying to take off my mask. She would grab it and not let go. It was so cute. Anyway, I thank God for all of you and for all of your prayers. Please keep us in your prayers as we do our best to prove to the doctors and nurses that we are able to care for her at home. (Apparently we have to prove ourselves). It would make it easier if nurses wouldn't come in and just take over sometimes and let us work through it.

Please keep praying for her equipment. Obviously, the government hasn't yet sent the money so that her equipment can be released to us. Please keep this in your prayers. Taylor's birthday is coming up and it would be his "bestest" present to have his sister attend his party. Hopefully it will get here soon so we can start taking her on day passes.

Also, we are going to be applying for Individualized funding through home care. Please pray for this as well because I will not be able to look after her alone at nights (I can't stay up 24/7) when Darwin is gone and I can't quit my job. Our power bill will literally double and there will be other expenses on top of everything as well. Please keep these issues in your prayers. Also pray that God will send the right people to us to look after her. This is still a major need and needs a lot of prayer.

Thanks everyone!!

We love you all very much!!

pneumonia?

Hey everybody!!

Darwin and I were up to see Emilie tonight. She is in isolation again. She wasn't herself and appeared to be working hard on her ventilator, so they did a chest x-ray and a blood gas. They found out that she has peri-influenza? Something like that. Her chest x-ray showed a small collapse of her left lung right under her heart as well as a "touch" of pneumonia. They made some changes on her ventilator and gave her a little extra support so that she didn't have to work so hard. They also started an IV to give her antibiotics to treat her illness. Please pray for healing. Also if some of you are wondering, Emilie did have that RSV vaccine so her risk of catching RSV (which is very common in young children and infants, but can be harsh to children who are at higher risks of repiratory problems) is low. Thanks for your prayers. I have confidence that those who check for updates regularly will be praying for healing for this. All of you are in our prayers as well. Please, also send some pictures or even a short prayer to us so that Emilie can see who is praying for her and/or hearing the prayers that you are praying for her. She loves looking at pictures and being read to. I think that it would be wonderful to have a scrapbook of people who are praying for her as a souvenir for us and for her. It would help give us comfort and support. Thanks everybody!! Please remember Emilie in your prayers as well as little Connor.

Love,

Sherri

Emilie 9 months old - January 7th, 2007

Hello everybody!!
Well, we made it to 9 months old!! The time is sure flying by. Emilie, of course, is still growing like a weed. She is now 31 inches long and is around 21 pounds. She loves the toys that she got for Christmas, but unfortunately some of them had to be sent home and frozen for two weeks because over Christmas she was ill. Apparently it was just a bladder infection, which we thought was a cold that Taylor had passed on to her - so she was placed in isolation. The procedures for removing someone from isolation are that everything has to get cleaned. So they scrubbed her room and I have to freeze her toys and posters.
Anyway, thanks for all your prayers. Emilie is enjoying going for her walks. Unfortunately, Daddy is sick and couldn't go up to see Em this weekend. Mommy, Grandma Updike and Great-grandma Wright took Emilie out for a walk this afternoon. Her nurse accompanied us for a bit and took some pictures for us. We got a four generations of women picture as well as pictures of Em with Great-grandma Wright and with both Grandmas. Emilie is enjoying her walks with Mommy. I thank God that she is out of isolation and able to go out for walks again. Hopefully soon we can take her for a walk outside. Or even on a day pass!! Please continue to pray for her equipment. God is good and Emilie is improving - slowly, but she is improving!! Pray that she will be able to hold up her head. She is moving her head more and more each day and continues to wiggle her torso. She can really kick her legs when they are dangling down, but can't lift her thighs. Pray for these areas. Your prayers are NOT unheard and we know and can feel your faithfulness in praying for her. We love each and every one of you. Please continue to pray for Emilie.
